Christmas in London is a very magical time of year, with different events happening all of December. Lucy Jenkins has the countdown of our top 10 events this December:

10: The Natural History Museum Ice Rink – celebrating it’s 12th year the ice rink offers skating for both adults and children with a café overlooking the ice, with live music on a Thursday to enjoy. Open daily from 10am to 5:30pm, and costing £12.65 for an adult ticket.

9: Christmas Market at the Tate Modern – With handmade gifts available for everyone on your Christmas list at the traditional Christmas market, as well as crepes and other festive food to enjoy – running until the 23rd of December.

8: Winter Night Garden at Backyard Cinema – This pop up cinema in Southwark is showing Christmas classics, including Home Alone and Elf for £16.50. With the last showing on the 8th of January, and tickets selling quick – don’t wait!

7: Southbank Centre Christmas Market – At one of the best Christmas markets in London, you can buy gifts, festive produce and sweet treats. The Southbank Centre is also putting on seasonal Christmas shows all of December, so check those out as well.

6: Carnaby Street Christmas lights – Completely free and worth it. Known for having the quirkiest Christmas lights in London, they are worth taking a look at. With inspiration this year coming from the exhibition at the V&A museum, ‘You say you want a revolution? Records and Rebels’, the lights are on display until the 6th January

5: Christmas carols in Trafalgar Square – Dress warm and come and see a number of choirs performing classics such as ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’ until the 23rd of December, under the famous Christmas tree.

4: Christmas in Leicester Square – With a traditional Christmas market, Santa’s grotto, and different shows happening until the 8th of January, it’s worth checking out this scaled down version of Winter Wonderland.

3: A Peninsula Christmas at Greenwich – New this year, with an ‘enchanted forest’, tepee snug bar, Santa’s Grotto and a Christmas market – check it out before the 22nd of December.

2: Some Voices Presents Christmas Movies – London’s coolest choir will be performing their take on Christmas film favourites and cult classics, including Love Actually, and the Oasis song from the John Lewis ad. Happening on the 13th and 14th of December at The Coronet in Elephant and Castle. Tickets start at £17.

And finally, our top pick for this year’s festivities:

1: Winter Wonderland – In its 10th year, the Hyde Park festival is still one of the most popular attractions during Christmas in London. Head there for a traditional market, festive food and a fairground until the 2nd of January.
