Elephant and Castle sheds old paintwork for new look

One of central London’s busiest and boastful shopping centres is seriously changing for 2019

Elephant & Castle shopping centre, located off the same roundabout, has been subject to a wonderful cast of shops and leisure, however is undergoing major change until its predicted finish in 2019. Images shown via Elephant and Castle’s official website, show that a 170k sqft area is to be re-developed to better suit the surrounding area and the new shopping centre.

For some, the change is long overdue. Alice, 20, a product design student at nearby London South Bank University said: “I hate the shopping centre, I rarely use it…”

Asked if she’d use the shopping centre more if it got a new look and became more modernly adapted, Alice said: “It definitely needs a new lick of paint.”

Aside from the centre itself, other including factors of this regeneration aim to increase public interest even more so in the area whilst reducing congestion, with one such measure being the addition of a new Northern Line space underground.

Local shops, however have expressed mixed opinions about the re-development as expenses to purchase and maintain new shop spaces will rise dramatically.
