South Korea’s Parasite wins best picture at Oscars 2020

At the Oscar’s this year, South Korea’s film Parasite is voted and wins best picture. Making it the first non-English language movie to win.

In total the movie won 4 awards while Sir Sam Mendes’s 1917 took only three.

Even though the World War One film was had been fans favourite to win, yet it’s awards all fell under the technical categories.

Director Bong Joon-Ho won the prize for best director against Sir Sam and also took the best original screenplay award.

“I feel like I’ll wake up to find it’s all a dream. It all feels very surreal,” Bong said.

When collecting the trophy Producer Kwak Sin-ae said “I’m speechless. We never imagined this to happen. I feel like a very opportune moment in history is happening right now.”

The film is about two families from different classes in Seoul – one who live in poverty and the other a rich family residing in a large home.

Boos were heard when organisers tried to shut the speech for best picture down by turning the lights off, they were then turned back on so that the celebration could continue.
