Cop 26 a pivotal moment into the fight against climate change

what is cop26, Cop26 is the 2021 UN (United Nations) climate change conference. for nearly three decades the UN has been bringing nearly every country to a global climate summit called COP which stands for ‘Conference of the parties’ where they discuss global climate issues that are going on as it goes from a minor issue to a global priority. this years COP takes place in Glasgow, England and it was the biggest political gathering held in UK. it was a host to 194 country’s and 120 world leaders  and the outcome was great of which all parties can be proud of as its looking to head towards the right direction and give the world hope.

they state that the decade out of 2030 will be crucial and countries must go further than they did.

COP26 have goals already set in mind the main one being to secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach and countries have been asked to come forward with ambitious emission reductions. These countries are going to need to step forward and will need to as stated by COP26: accelerate the phase-out of coal, curtail deforestation, speed up the switches to electric vehicles as well as encourage investment in renewables. They also want to adapt to protect communities and natural habits as it already has an enormous amount of devastating affects on not only us with pollution but also natural habitats and ecosystems. COP26 want countries to protect and restore ecosystems as well as build defences and warning systems to avoid loss of homes, livelihoods as well as possibly lives. We asked an activist for COP26 in Westminster outside the house of parliament that wants something done for the world and its advocating for actual change, here is what he had to say.

  • “We haven’t got days, We haven’t got weeks to wait, we haven’t got months to wait we’ve got to do it now”
  • “we cannot do the seas we cannot do the oceans we cannot do the atmosphere, not us but we can clean the land and we can stop abusing mother nature ad treat it with respect that it deserves”

According to scientists meeting the goal of 1.5 degrees requires global emissions to 45% by 2030 and to 0% by 2050

we must take the time we have now and do ways best and what we must to fight towards the 1.5 degree goal as we still have a chance and as mother nature hasn’t completely turned on the world just yet and giving it its final chance now to change and make sure we change what we can now so the future generations wont have to struggle with the mess the past generations have left behind
