Piers Morgan ‘Megxit’ Good Morning Britain

Piers Morgan has left Good Morning Britain after an argument with a colleague on-air who disagreed with the comments he made on the Duchess of Sussex’s mental health.

The decision was announced by ITV after Ofcom received 41,000 complaints and started an investigation.

A representative from ITV said: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

The argument occurred on Monday’s show where Morgan said “he didn’t believe a word” about Meghan’s mental health problems in Oprah Winfrey’s interview.

In the interview, Meghan spoke about how she was turned away from seniors in the Royal Family institution when she asked for help with her thoughts of suicide. She said: “I just didn’t want to be alive any more. That was a clear, real, frightening and constant thought.”

In response to these claims, Morgan said: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”

Morgan stands by his comments after leaving and explained: “I believe in freedom of speech; I believe in the right to be allowed to have an opinion. If people want to believe Meghan Markle, that’s entirely their right.”

“I don’t believe almost anything that comes out of her mouth and I think the damage she’s done to the British monarchy and to the Queen at a time when Prince Philip is lying in hospital is enormous and frankly contemptible.”
