UK comes together to thank mental health nurses

Today marks the day of National Mental Health Nurse Day where as a nation we reflect and thank the nurses who care for people with mental health issues and their amazing compassion to help those recover.

This day is organised by the RCN Mental Health Forum and within this community they are on Twitter all day to engage thousands of people and teach them about this life-changing career.

Mental Health Nurse Day only started three years ago as people working as nurses that work mental health decreased by 10.6% since 2009. Mental health nurse and chair of the forum Ed Freshwater said back in 2019, “A lot of people say they don’t know what the job involves and don’t hear enough positive stories about the speciality”.

Since 2019, thousands of people are gaining more knowledge about this role and for the past three years #MHNursesDay has been in the top three trending on Twitter.

Throughout the day NHnurses are using the social media platform to hold online parties, quizzes and prizes for the hard working nurses.

The Mental Health Nurses’ Day Twitter engages all day who uses the hashtag and at the end of the day they have a ‘Tweetchat’ from 7-9pm which allows the public to connect with professionals and nurses.
