Mystery toys leading Christmas sales

Christmas to many is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s the time when you’re surrounded by family and friends, indulging in delicious food and treating yourself to a few Christmas tipples and of course it also the season of “gift giving”, and seeing your loved one’s face and the expression of appreciation and joy when they open it

But, being a student, you might think that the ‘perfect’ gift is out of your price range especially shopping for a younger brother or sister, having to purchase their favourite toy from their favourite animation show.

On November 14th, DreamToys, run by the Toy Retailers Association, released its list of must-have Christmas toys with the Paw Patrol Ultimate fire truck as one of the top picks at a pricey high of £69.99.

But some parents looking to find the perfect gift for their children may cringe at the price tag, even more so, students looking to buy Christmas presents for the young ones in their lives may find themselves unable to afford these kinds of toys.

JLDN Reporter Jessie Dunn attended the launch to get a look at the what made the top twelve must haves for 2018.

Peter Allison, owner of Whirligig Toys, says the toy industry is all about choice. “As a retailer, we make sure we got thing for everyone, if you’re a student, you need to be able to find something for your younger sibling”.

We visited LSBU student union to find out how much pressure holiday spending puts on students. One student claim that caring about yourself as well as everyone else can be quite stressful especially having to get the right presents for people.

Other toys making the hot list this year include Harry Potters Hogwarts Great Hall from LEGO at £89.00, Boxer from spin master toys at £79.99 and Barbie Ultimate Kitchen at £49.99.
